Blizzard has included
exceptional support for WOW mods. It has even released a User
Interface Customization tool which they call Cui. This tool has the
potential to allow full control over the content of toolbars and hot
keys, as well as macros to automate sets of operations and the ability
to script much more elaborate tools.
The range of WOW
mods that are available can be anything from controlling in-game
play to adding extra rows of button bars for spells, skills and more.
There are also various cosmetic mods, including one that
reproduces the infamous Leeroy Jenkins sound. In extreme cases, WOW
mods completely supplement the standard WOW interface, usually
offering more advanced functionality.
WOW mods are
created using the Lua programming language and XML, and images used for
any mods are created using the .TGA and .BLP image formats.
FlexBar is one example
of a WOW Mod. It a very powerful mod tool for customizing
your interface in a substantial way, rather than just re-arranging
things. It allows for up to 120 buttons, all of which can be scripted to
do things like glow, change color, appear and disappear, and change size
according to events in-game. This allows for such things as a special
aggro button for priests, that when clicked, says 'Ive got aggro!
Help!', or a set of buttons for a mage that appear only when the
associated spell has enough Mana to cast. Additionally, FlexBar allows
you to create an essentially unlimited number of macros and LUA scripts,
allowing you to all but write your own WOW mod.
Another popular mod is
what is actually a collection of mods called COSMOS, read more
